How to Fix PS3 Display Problems

Posted on: August 23, 2011

If your PS3 is suffering from a video display problem, there are many issues you should check. Many display problems are not serious, and due to simple cable and connectivity problems.

First, make sure that all your cables are securely attached to both the television and the PS3 console. The HDMI cable, for example, often looks like it is attached when it is actually a bit loose, so make extra sure all the connections are tight.

If the problem is not the cables being loose, than your next step is to double check everything is plugged into where it is supposed to be plugged in. Make sure that you did not plug one of the cables wrongly into the television set.

You should also check to make sure that the settings on your console are set correctly for the type of cable connection you are using. If you are using HDMI/DVI cables, for example, make sure that the PS3 settings are not set for standard A/V cables.

Still having problems? Then you should next check the display resolution settings for the PS3. This is especially true if you have been using the PS3 on multiple television sets. If the display resolution is set for HDTV, it will not display on a standard television set (or the other way around).

If you are still having problems at this point, you should try resetting the PS3 by turning it off and then holding down the power button for five seconds until you here a beep. You can then follow the onscreen prompts to finish the resetting process.

If all the above fixes do not work, you will need to move onto more advanced PS3 at home fixes.
